Are we headed to warmth? We hope so. In any case, it doesn’t stop us from bringing you this April Beauty Bomb. The Beauty Bus, the Beauty Fairy…call it what you will, but we’re always thrilled to transport our beauty thoughts from us…to you! So bring on the Beauty Dust!
The temperatures in early spring in Wisconsin can leave us with a less than sunny disposition. Instead of bronzers, we’re thinking more about the tender state of our skin. It stings, it’s sore, it’s red…and we just want something soothing. Of course we always love to read about the latest and the greatest – the newest skin care products, those new “blood” facials certain celebrities are talking about…articles on growth factors in products and why they work…but then we look in the mirror, and see something that just needs simple and gentle.
In April, if we don’t need a deep chemical peel, a laser treatment, or even a waxing treatment….what we might just need is balance. That’s right. Balance. Our skin needs to feel good. Not hurt-y. So lately we’ve been treating it gently…yet simply! We don’t want to head into warmer weather and have problems because we haven’t righted the ship in terms of keeping our skin in check. It’s the body’s biggest organ, for heaven’s sake! And what it may want is to be neutral. So we’ve brought you our list of the “basics” that we’re really loving right now.
Revision SkinCare Gentle Cleansing Lotion ($24). Creamy and luxurious, and a fabulous price point to boot, don’t just tell your sister about it, buy her one for herself!
SkinMedica Hydrating Complex ($80). With hyaluronic acids that are micro particalized, this serum penetrates deep. After a few days, you may even forget this step, because your skin will be that hydrated. Its great morning and night, and year-round.
SkinMedica Dermal Repair Cream ($120). This is a fabulous cream. We don’t know which we like more – the smell or the packaging. It’s like a ring on Saturn! It feels luxurious every time we open the jar. Love, love, love this one. Here’s the best part – it’s got antioxidants (Vitamin C+E) already in it, so you can skip anything else! Some of you might find it very thick and won’t need a hydrator underneath, but for those of us who are near lizard-like conditions, layer it on. And then layer the Skin Ceuticals Hydra Balm on the rough parts (see below).
Eye Cream. We felt the need to toss one in here, because it’s really a staple of ours. We love Revision Skin Care’s Teamine ($68). It’s very moisturizing, absorbs quickly, does well under makeup, and helps to eliminate dark eye circles and puff. Enough said.
Jane Iredale Mineral Makeup ($44 – $54). The mineral powders. Lately, they’re our fave rave. Seriously! Who would have thought that with parched skin, you would put powder on? Spritz on a bit of Balance or D2O spray to set…and you are ready for anything. Even the grocery store without a lick of anything else. We guarantee people will tell you that you have nice skin.
SkinCeuticals Hydra Balm ($30). Now for the big dogs. Greasy, thick (note the word “balm” on the package). This is a fast fix for a variety of mishaps – cuticles, elbows, feet (layered on thick under socks), around the nose, on the cheeks, tops of ears, elbows…anywhere you feel parched, this is your best bet. And yes, we do layer the Jane Iredale Mineral Makeup right over – and it’s perfect.
So, even though we’ve rattled off a lot of things (6 to be exact), we really like to think that this is a simple routine with gentle products that ultimately leads to healthier skin.
